The fat cats in DC are disconnected from the real threat of so-called animal lovers taking it upon themselves to "rescue" product they consider to be mistreated or abused.
Here in Iowa, we know that things are the way they are when it comes to our food system for a reason: the circle of life dictates that farmers and ranchers need to grow protein in the most cost-effective way possible. But soft-headed, sentimental "woke" carrot-munchers think THEY get to decide what is and isn't "humane" treatment of chickens, pigs and cows.
California's Proposition 12, which the Supreme Court upheld despite the protests of the Biden admin (and if even BIDEN is on the side of animal agriculture about this, you know we've got to be right!), seeks to dictate how producers grow protein by banning essential components of profitable, efficient farming like gestation crates. We must prevent legislation like this from becoming the norm, and that starts with letting folks that don't know jack about the meat industry pressure politicians and courts into taking their side.
Around the country, producers are also having to deal with increasingly bold excursions into farms by "concerned citizens" who take photos and videos THEY think will sway public opinion about our industry. But those of us who understand modern meat production know that there's nothing going on to shed any tears over- standard industry practices are understood by our scientists and the USDA to be sufficient. We need to take a strong stand against the idea that there's a "moral necessity" to interfere with our work that justifies blatant trespassing in the name of animal protection. And when they go from taking pictures to taking our property- that's when it might be time for us to exercise our Second Amendment and "Stand Your Ground" rights, just sayin...
